Desperate Democrats and the Attack of the Human Clones
Tennessee Democrats deny the special election in House District 62 is do or die for their beleaguered party. Why then do you think they sent this over-the-top mailer accusing Republican Pat Marsh of favoring the cloning of humans? Sorry, what?
The claim is absurd on its face and seems unlikely to sway many voters. "Pat Marsh would take creating life out of God's hands--and turn it over to scientists and lab technicians." Please. That's right, if Marsh is elected, the state of Tennessee will start cooking up babies in petri dishes. Here's state GOP chair Chris Devaney's reaction:
"Pat Marsh is pro-life, against human cloning and believes in protecting the unborn from the moment of conception. The Democrat Party will do anything to get Ty Cobb elected which is demonstrated by their constant misrepresentation of the facts during this campaign."
It's the kind of gutter attack that usually backfires. It's all the more outrageous because Tennessee Democrats for years have adopted a holier-than-thou attitude toward negative politics, constantly chiding Republicans for crossing the line by exploiting ignorance and fear. What would they have said about this mailer if Republicans had sent it? Now, Democrats are cornered and acting like wounded animals.
Update: Mark Brown pretends this cloning thing is a legitimate issue. How stupid does he think we are?
