Race in the Nashville Blogosphere

A post that went up late this morning on Kleinheider's Post Politics blog, titled "Is That Jason Powell in Blackface?," is drawing sharp accusations of racism. (The post features video of Steven Turner, an African-American who is challenging incumbent Mary Pruitt in the 58th district House race; Jason Powell is a white guy who ran against Pruitt in 2006.) Readers are weighing in with highly critical reaction on the post's comment thread, and former Metro council member and mayoral candidate David Briley, via Facebook, calls it "evidence that racism is still alive and well in Nashville."

In the Post Politics comment thread, where the discourse is heated (to say the least), Kleinheider responds to his critics:
Okay, hang on. I'll get to you in a minute. Right now I'm busy going back and retroactively making all my post titles "appropriate and respectful." Could take a while.
He might want to take another stab at that.

Update: SouthComm CEO Chris Ferrell comments in the thread below. Over at Post Politics Kleinheider explains and apologizes.
