News You Can Use: Gun Nuts Turn to Pith for Advice
Hello all you gun nuts out there, finally it's the day you've been waiting for. So go ahead, strap on your firearm, put on your best Clint Eastwood face, head for your favorite drinking establishment and make believe you're a badass! There's only one problem: The police might arrest you.
Chuck E. Cheese: The safest place to wear your handgun until we straighten out a few little legal issues.
According to a lawsuit heard for the first time yesterday, the guns-in-bars law is so vague that you can't really know whether you can carry your weapon inside many places. Does this business earn most of its revenue from the sale of food or booze? That's the question, but who can tell?
To help, John Harris, director of the Tennessee Firearms Association, is offering advice to his members.
"We tell them if it's a family restaurant, you ought to be fine," Harris said after yesterday's court hearing. "If you feel comfortable taking your minor children in, you ought to feel comfortable (taking your gun in). If you would not feel comfortable taking your minor children in there, maybe you ought to think twice about taking your firearm in there."
OK, so Chuck E Cheese is definitely cool. But try to keep your weapon holstered as you go down the slide.
