Beavers Joins Litz in Quitting the Legislature
So Sen. Mae Beavers isn't running for reelection and neither is Rep. John Litz. That gives Democrats a decent shot at another Senate seat, and it means Republicans likely will claim another one in the House.
There's no truth to the rumor that Sen. Beavers is returning to rural Oregon.
That old warhorse Bob Rochelle is supposedly thinking about running again for Beavers' Wilson County seat, but Democrats would do better to find someone else this time. Rochelle's day has passed. That was clear from the ass-kicking he took from Beavers his last time out. The income tax did him in. On the Republican side, Rep. Susan Lynn might run.
As for Litz, he won in heavily Republican Hamblen County because he's personally popular, but this seat clearly should belong to the GOP. House Democratic caucus chair Mike Turner says he's already lined up a great candidate. Translation: Oh shit, it's Randy Rinks all over again!
