Murfreesboro: A City of Many Mysteries
Who knew? A Christian pro-Israel group that's been in the news lately has its U.S. offices in Murfreesboro. The group—International Christian Embassy Jerusalem—is helping rally opposition to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before his address to the United Nations next week.
ICEJ has delivered a petition to the U.N. signed by 55,000 Christians from more than 120 countries worldwide demanding that he be indicted for incitement to genocide against Israel. Other pro-Israel groups are sponsoring a rally on Monday in New York to protest the Iranian leader’s visit. Organizers disinvited Sarah Palin apparently to placate Hillary Clinton, who backed out when she found out Palin was supposed to speak.
So how come the ICEJ has its U.S. headquarters in Murfreesboro. Simple. It’s cheaper than Washington, D.C.
“Like every nonprofit we’re trying to pay our bills,” a spokesman, Michael Hines, tells Pith. “We started wondering why were paying so much overhead in D.C. when we could be anywhere and cut our costs. So we did an analysis and decided to move to Murfreesboro. Here we are.”
OK, so it's a little slow today at Pith.
