Republicans at the Crossroads

Believe it or not, tomorrow’s state legislative primaries might actually matter a little. In three East Tennessee races in particular—Doug Overbey vs. Raymond Finney, Stacey Campfield vs. Ron Leadbetter, and Kent Williams vs. Jerome Cochran—Republicans can help define their party for the future. Here’s the choice: Whacked-out right-wingers (i.e. Finney, Campfield and Cochran) who waste everyone’s time flailing away in the culture wars. Or relatively reasonable moderates who might actually accomplish a few things for their constituents.

The nutjobs have been winning a lot lately on the state legislative level, and state party headquarters seems to be staffed by raving lunatics who think, for instance, that America’s fighting a holy war. But the highest elected officials still are moderates—Sens. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker. So what the GOP eventually will become in this state remains up in the air. We’ll keep you posted.

Look at the leadership of the TNGOP, B-Ho and Robin. Isn't it obvious that Tennessee Republicans prefer the whacked-out loudmouthed nutjobs.
