And Mike Jameson Endorses....

Recently, we suggested that our readers might want to vote for Eric Stansell for the open state House seat covering most of East Nashville. Our reason was simple. Stansell's opponent had just sent out an email publishing a list of early voters. It was a clumsy tactic aimed at scaring supporters to the polls.

Here at Pith, we are nothing if not fair and balanced. So when we received a loving email from Metro Council member Mike Jameson touting the virtues of Stansell's opponent, we figured it was our obligation to publish it. Oh—and in the interest of accuracy, we might have switched one word for another.

We don't think it changes the meaning of Jameson's note. Not one bit.

Dear Friend –

Just a reminder that—despite Dick Cheney’s best efforts—we are not yet a totalitarian regime. So you still get to elect your government representatives tomorrow. Regrettably, you don’t have the option of selecting a new Metro Council representative yet. But you do have the opportunity to vote for Waller Lansden as your State Representative.

For those who know Waller, there’s not much more you need to hear. For those who don’t, take it from me that Waller is a firm whose intellect, compassion, and character will serve us well in the state legislature. And Waller’s devotion to East Nashville is longstanding. Maybe you like the Gingko trees planted along 14th Street? You can thank Waller for planting them during its service as a neighborhood president. Like those trees, Waller’s roots in our neighborhood run deep and long. (Get it? See how I worked in that “trees” and “roots” analogy? I’m on a roll here.)

Hope to see you tomorrow at the polls.

Mike

Aren't you supposed to be a real reporter or has your title officially changed to petty little turd?

Jack said:

For what it's worth, I think Matt is a substantial and insightful little turd.

The plan is to make the change on the masthead next week.

Good to know, I've been beginning to worry about Nashville losing its last professional media outlet. Properly designating your role would help the Scene maintain its stature.

Matt, you were absent during the last Mayor's when the Scene decided to give up on progressive candidates they had previously supported and support whomever was most likely to win based on their bank account. You should check with Liz or her successor and get a copy of that memo.

Honestly your obsession with those guys took a turn for the wierd a while back. Let it go.

Here's all Nashville progressives need to know about this race:

Bob Clement wants Eric Stansell to win. Karl Dean wants Mike Stewart to win.

I'm a Nashville progressive, and that doesn't help me a bit as I go to vote tomorrow.

Karl Dean has governed as Bob Clement campaigned to govern.

Would it be cutting the Nashville Predators' deal or cutting out bus lines that would make Dean "progressive?" Clement would have done both, too.

Tennessee Democrat said:

Really? Then please explain why Mike Stewart hired Bill Fletcher to do his advertising? The same Bill Fletcher that crafted Clement's media message and positions that we progressives weeren't very fond of last summer!

S-townMike said:

Of course, it need not help me as I have to decide between Mary Pruitt and nobody.

Nobody is clearly the more progressive choice regardless of whether Karl Dean would endorse Pruitt.

Can't we re-focus the conversation on Pulle's sad and bizarre obsession with Waller?

Beer Frame said:

Not yet. We haven't discussed your sad and bizarre obsession with Pulle.

It's official then - you're nothing.

Now pith has turned into the fabricator.

Why not just acknowledge that you guys have quit reporting and gone to just sitting at your desks making stuff up?

Jesus, you asshats - this is a BLOG!!! Can't you get that??

Asshat said:

No, I don't get that.

Unlike blogs set up by goofballs like, say, Bill Hobbs, the bloggers on this site are people whose bylines appear in the Scene as reporters and editors. They don't seem to recognize or care how it damages their credibility when they use this space to carry on unwarranted personal vendettas, spout off outrageously opinionated claims that go well beyond the facts, or even make stuff up and then use the fact that this is a blog as a crutch to excuse it all.

Matt's a communist. That's all you need to know about him.

How do you know he's a communist and what does that mean in 2008? Where does he need to move to fit in? China, Utah, Williamson County? Isn't there a new term to call people?
