'English First' Nears Goal
Eric Crafton has collected more than 9,000 signatures to put his “English First” initiative on the November ballot. Only 10,103 names are needed and there’s still a month before the deadline, making it pretty much a certainty that voters will decide whether to amend the Metro Charter to make English the official language of our government. Yeehaw!
Jon Crisp, the former chair of the county Republican Party, says English First just sent out 13,000 more postcards with petitions attached. Roughly 46,000 postcards have been sent altogether now at a cost of around $18,000, according to Crisp. Most of that, Crisp says, has come from Crafton himself, who gave around $5,000 of his own money to his campaign. English First isn’t required by law to disclose its donors.
In an email to supporters, Crisp accuses critics of “cheap scare tactics” and says Nashville’s in danger of becoming a “sanctuary city.”
“Sadly in general,” Crisp writes, “today’s immigrants are not the same as those of our past and seem to want to reap America’s bounty while not committing to our culture. Will we become a patchwork quilt of Third World nations that have set up shop in Nashville?”
A charter amendment would do nothing except alienate immigrants and make Nashville a national embarrassment again. Be that as it may, does anyone think voters won’t approve it?

....Hmmmm...wonder what Crisp means when he points out that "today's immigrants aren't the same", referencing a "patchwork quilt" from the "third world" who want to "reap America's bounty"?
Poor Crisp needs to go back to his GOP how-to-speak-in-race-baiting-code class. This is just so stunningly overt in its racism, it makes Bill Hobbs seem downright subtle.
