Reeling in That Marlin
Nothing like a little Chris Matthews to jump start your Friday morning. In this clip, the MSNBC staple plays a little hardball with Kevin James, a conservative talk show host from Los Angeles. (And not the costar of Hitch.) It took a clearly irritable Matthews about four minutes to embarrass and humiliate James, who was rabidly echoing Bush's comparison of Barack Obama to former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain without really knowing what Chamberlain did to enable Hitler's rise to power. When Matthews discovered that James' grasp of history was even shakier than Bush's, he moved in for the kill, angrily devouring the talk show host as he revealed his ignorance. It's absolutely captivating television.
And, yes, there's nothing local about this clip, but if it would make you feel better, imagine Phil Valentine sitting in James' place. He wouldn't have fared any better. Steve Gill, on the other hand, would have held his own. We'll give him that much.

why is the angry, stupid man yelling at me?
Posted 05/16/2008 at 10:06:27 AMWhat an absolute wanker. Hey Kevin, put the triple latte down and review your notes from 10th grade history class you idiot. This guy has a radio show? of course he does.
Posted 05/16/2008 at 10:10:13 AMApropos Pancho: You just don't see enough use of "wanker" in American political discourse these days. It was, alas, well after the 2004 election, with all those black square M-the-Moron and F-the-President stickers pasted on lefty bumpers, that it occurred to me that the perfect one would have been W-the Wanker. I'd have cleaned up and the election would have turned out differently.

Posted 05/16/2008 at 01:56:13 PMWow. That's better than a second cup of coffee.
Well, Chamberlain is, famously, known as an appeaser. So, another TV head is laying (lying) in the bushes, and ridicules an invited dumb ass. But, that guy said he was an appeaser; that's enough. Why all the chuckles?
Now, Obama, all the left, have the urge to appease, in fact, they are notorious for their appeasing, it's in their genes.
Posted 05/16/2008 at 05:48:57 PMActually, as Chris Matthews vivisection of that Kevin James guy showed, saying someone is an "appeaser" doesn't mean anything. Obama isn't saying anything new; he's just echoing a tradition of diplomacy that every president has followed--Nixon included--until our current one. Simply talking to another world leader doesn't mean you're going to let them invade another country while not talking to another leader won't make him weaker. I mean this is common sense, which is a lot easier to have if you throw away the Sean Hannity/Kevin James talking points.
Posted 05/16/2008 at 08:55:05 PMOf course an "appeaser" means something. M Pulle knows what it means. The left appeased the Communists, Chamberlain went to Munich, the left was always in a twit when Nixon or Reagen, and Johnson, too, were running foreign policy. Things may have been rough at times but the cold war was ended because of men like those.
Now you have radical Islam, out to kill us, and some think the left does not have the stomach for the fight. Well, the coastal left along with their media fellow travelers are not fit to manage the foreign policy of the US. I'd not bet on Obama; he'll get you beat in a close game. I'd even take HRC.
Posted 05/18/2008 at 10:45:08 PMActually, Neville Chamberlain was a conservative. Good thing to remember if you're ever on with Chris Matthews.
Posted 05/18/2008 at 11:24:53 PMIt’s also worth mentioning that the Bush administration does currently talk to Iran’s representatives in Iraq and over the past few years has engaged in long and serious talks with North Korea. Condi even met with her Iranian AND Syrian counterparts last year. I always knew she was a closet appeaser…
Posted 05/19/2008 at 11:24:46 AMMatte Pulle needs to read my post a little more carefully. I did not say Chamberlain was a letist.
As for Matthews, he's a bully, a loud mouth and a leftist.
