Alan Coverstone, a candidate for Metro school board in District 9, is a promising contender for the seat being vacated by retiring board chair Marsha Warden. Coverstone is a thoughtful progressive whose campaign is off to an energetic start with lots of fundraising appeals and email blasts. The one sent today, however, did seem to incorporate an unfortunate turn of phrase in the subject line.

I think the biggest asset to Coverstone's school board campaign is the moral authority he derives from his comfortable perch as Dean of Students at Montgomery Bell Academy.
Posted 05/06/2008 at 01:40:10 PMArguably more important than his own occupational perch is the fact that (unlike some elected officials past and present in this town) his own kids attend public schools, and he's been an active and involved public school parent.

Comfortable perch? I suspect the clientelle at MBA is a pretty demanding bunch in many regards.
