From the press release inbox, Gov. Phil Bredesen shoots an NCAA funny:

BREDESEN ASKS SEBELIUS: "WHERE'S THE BEEF?"

Statement from Governor Phil Bredesen:

"We certainly have bragging rights with two Tennessee teams vying for national championships this week. I'm extremely proud of the Memphis Tigers and the Lady Vols. A side of Jayhawk will be especially tasty with a nice Kansas steak, after the Memphis Tigers give us our first championship victory of the week."

Note: Bredesen and Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius agree this is a meaty issue. If the Tigers win, Sebelius will send Bredesen some of Kansas City's best steaks. In the extremely unlikely event that the Jayhawks take the match, Bredesen will send Sebelius the pride of Memphis, Rendezvous Ribs.

Somebody get the dry ice. Hell of a game, though.

I was pulling for those Memphians, but the outcome was almost worth it for the lesson it so potently provided (e.g. to my kid, whose rec league hoops squad last winter had a team free throw percentage over the season somewhere in the low 30s, if that) that free throws matter.
