60 to Juan?
It looks like Juan Borges will once again be challenging Rep. Ben West for the District 60 seat in the state House. Borges has filed the proper paperwork to run, though he could still withdraw by next Thursday, according to the Davidson County Election Commission.
Borges is one of two cops in charge of the Metro Police Department’s Hispanic community outreach program ironically called “El Protector.” The last time Borges ran for West’s seat—in 2006 as a Republican—he campaigned on a platform of harsh ant-illegal immigrant rhetoric that did not sit well with the people he was supposed to be El Protector-ing.
In the aftermath of that election, in which Borges was trounced, West reflected on the race (and the race of his opponent) before a group of Nashville Democrats. "There was a Hispanic Republican policeman who ran against me,” West said in March 2007. “I still don't know what the hell that is."
Here’s a video of West cracking that “joke.” Note the laughter in response. If Borges goes through with this race—against a longtime, popular incumbent—I’m sure he'll be pimping this video all over town.

Heh...funny, now I actually live in the district in which I shot that video. Also funny, I don't remember giving anyone permission to use that video.
