Thompson: Not Good Enough

Posted November 29, 2007 at 08:45:59 AM by Jeff Woods

The reviews are coming in, and no one seems to think Fred Thompson did much in last night's CNN/YouTube debate to help his struggling campaign.

Thompson launched the campaign's first attack ad during the debate, slapping Mike Huckabee on taxes and Mitt Romney on abortion.

But as the Washington Post points out, Thompson passed on the opportunity to hammer home his point: "As has happened time and again in this campaign, Thompson, himself, seemed less willing than his own campaign to throw punches. When asked about the video, Thompson said simply: 'These are their words.'"

No one took the trouble to attack Thompson. Why bother? Unless things change dramatically, he won't make it out of Iowa. More reviews:

NBC's Chuck Todd says Thompson "seemed more comfortable in this debate than in his first two outings but just because he was comfortable doesn't mean he had enough great moments. He seemed like a supporting member of the cast rather than a centerpiece of the debate. His shots at Giuliani and Romney were probably lines that sounded better in his head than when he delivered them."

Time's Mark Halperin gave ol' Fred a grade of C+. "Better than he's been, but not better than the others—and thus not good enough."

Here is what Rush Limbaugh said on Wednesday, following the debate:

"There was one candidate who did not display any moderateness or liberalism or have any of his past forays into those areas displayed, and that candidate was Fred Thompson. Now, this is not an endorsement. You know, I don't endorse during primaries. I just point out..."

Fred's laid back style is being interpreted incorrectly, which you would expect from superficial analysis by the mainstream media. However, Fred's well thought out positions and his ideology of limited federal government, make him the most conservative candidate in the field. Those facts will get out and Fred will emerge the candidate.

He was the same old boring conserivative he has always been, tauting the party line with no new ideas. Is there any real difference between Fred, Romney, Giuliani and McCain??? I didn't see it! The two that have new ideas are Ron Paul and Huckabee. Who were the other two in the debate???
With our national debt now at 9 trillion dollars, I don't see how we can keep these shananagans up. If we are to improve things, we are going to have to cut some serious spending habits out of big government.........seems all the front runners, with the exception of Paul, have not told me how they are gonna cut some serious spending and put money into the budget from not spending like mad.
We need serious change and Fred Thompson can't bring it touting the party line. That same ole' party line is still big spender government whether on the right or the left.....
