Flagrant Foul

Former NBA star Ron Mercer surrendered to Metro Police Wednesday and was charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from a brawl at a Nashville strip club back in April. The pro baller allegedly got into a heated argument with a stripper at Anthony's Show Place and, as he was being escorted outside, one of his cohorts reportedly stabbed a bouncer in the shoulder. Mercer then punched another security guard in the face, police say, before high-tailing it out of the club.
Mercer, of Allenwood Drive in East Nashville, is free on bond.
The native Nashvillian played basketball for the University of Kentucky in the mid-90s under then-coach Rick Pitino and was part of a national championship team. In 1997 Mercer was a first-round draft pick selected by the Boston Celtics. During a successful eight-year NBA career he played for a number of teams, but was dropped by the New Jersey Nets in 2005 due to an injury.
