Bad Cop
* The fellas at We Own This Town brought us word last week that local psych-punk bandits Bad Cop just signed a deal with New York-based Reach Out International Records (ROIR). ROIR was behind early releases from Television, New York Dolls, Beastie Boys, Bad Brains, The MC5, GG Allin and loads more--that's a pretty good sign, no? Check out Bad Cop's artist profile at the ROIR site, where you can listen to some tunes. I recommend "Daylight." BC are playing tomorrow night at Little Hamilton, in case you feel like getting your real-time live stream on.

* Chelsea Crowell recently released her eponymous debut, and you know what? It's pretty damn cool. Recorded with Loney Hutchins and released by Cleft Music (Hutchins' label), Chelsea Crowell features playing and singing from William Tyler (Lambchop, Silver Jews), Brian Kotzer (Silver Jews, Tim Chad and Sherry), Kyle Hamlett (Lylas), Rodney Crowell (Rodney Crowell) and plenty more. Get your stream on here. (+)

* Nashville-based instrumental post-rockers The Bird Ensemble released their record Evensong on Tuesday via Japanese label Happy Prince. The Bird Ensemble make intricate, twinkling, emotionally evocative landscapes similar to those of Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed You Black Emperor! (+)

* The WRVU Benefit feat. Cheer Up Charlie Daniels, West Folk & Vermicious K'nids is tonight at The End. Some folks want to skip the show on principle--on accounta the cap. Others want to turn out, show solidarity and prove that the community cares about local music and will support it even in dire, uncertain times. My two cents. Bee tee dub, Neil of Cheer Up Charlie Daniels tells us that they will be releasing their live record, Live in '79, at the show tonight, and that, "There will be free mustaches, face painting, merchandise give-aways, 3 other great bands, a DJ between sets, balloons, and free intercourse for anyone who can find it [sic]." Sick.

* Intern Lance just strolled in and gave us a tip that Cafe Coco apparently intends to suspend all shows other than open mic nights henceforth. You might remember when there was talk of just the weekend shows being called off, but now their MySpace page sez, "Cafe Coco (back deck) All Live Music Nights are CANCELLED as of today Nov 13th. Open Mic on Thursday Nights will continue." Bummer.
