Richard Lloyd Shreds: Tonight at The 5 Spot

Richard Lloyd played guitar in Television. That rules so much harder than anything any of you have done ever. He also really digs Jimi Hendrix. See for yourself when he graces the stage of The 5 Spot tonight. Here's what I had to say about it in this week's print edish of the Scene:

As one-half of the most distinguished guitar duo of the punk-rock era, Television's Richard Lloyd was a guitar hero to many. But the lauded CBGB's axe-slinger--whose output has been sporadic since the dissolution of the band--was not without heroes of his own. That truth was made evident this year by the release of The Jamie Neverts Story--an homage to Jimi Hendrix on which he interprets obvious choices like "Purple Haze" along with deeper cuts like "Little Miss Lover." If you're all about having your face melted off by killer Stratocaster solos, but don't want to feel like you're watching a marathon dolphin flog, then look at this show as one of those rare opportunities to witness some serious guitar wailage without having to feel like a douche about it. And the Relatives and Will Holland open.
