Obama to Bring Nashville to the White House
You may recall that back on election day last November country star Ricky Skaggs expressed some trepidation over the election of Barack Obama, claiming that he wasn't sure that "Mr. Obama likes bluegrass or country music that well." Well fear not, Ricky, as it was just announced that Barack and Michelle Obama will be hosting a country event to take place at the White House on July 21. The lineup for the event has yet to be announced. However, we might be able to get some idea from past events as gactv.com reported that:![]()

Country stars have already interacted with the Obama administration on several occasions. Garth Brooks and Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles took part in an inaugural event on the steps of the Lincoln Monument. Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus were among the artists who appeared at other inaugural festivities; Martina McBride performed at the White House during a Stevie Wonder concert that aired on PBS; and Mark Wills joined kids from the Children's Miracle Network when they met the prez.
So if we're lucky we'll get to see The Obama cabinet line dancing to "Indian Outlaw." Also, I thought Martina McBride was Sean Hannity's girl? Her song "Independence Day"--which includes the pro-diplomacy chorus of "Let freedom ring, Let the white dove sing / Let the whole world know that today is the day of a reckoning / Let the weak be strong / Let the right be wrong / Roll the stone away / Let the guilty pay / It's Independence Day"--has long functioned as the intro to his daily radio show.
Speaking of AM radio personalities of the right wing ghetto, this morning I was punishing myself by listening to some Rush Limbaugh and managed to hear the perpetual d-bag lambasting Obama for talking about his love for golf during a recent interview, willfully ignoring the avid love for the sport that George W. Bush along with every other President in modern times has had. Limbaugh describing how he himself just returned from a golf tournament in Hawaii, of course, followed this. Being that Limbaugh and his ilk are all over Obama like white on rice, I can't wait to hear his commentary on this forthcoming White House country what-have-you after it goes down. Glenn Beck will probably weep.![]()
