Blaze of (Buttrock) Glory: Wicked Celtics
Remember Feable Weiner? They were goofy, punny, harmony-driven power pop out of the 'Boro who renamed themselves Mondo Primo and released 2FN HOT last year after years of inactivity. Both bands' songs were filled with adolescent humor and immature barbs, so it's no surprise to find frontman Adam Andersen veering straight into parody with his act Wicked Celtics, whose videos promote iPhones to Wii Fit through a character whose aesthetic seems lifted from that Eagles of Death Metal dude (which in fairness, is lifted from Lemmy, any dude on a motorcycle in the '70s, or that guy from the Village People). The clip above is a song called "I Don't Wanna Hear Your Band," about overzealous MySpace band friend requests. From the WC website:
If Scott Stapp of Creed, that dude from Nickelback, and James Hetfield of Metallica, were to sing about their true love for products with which they have no official affiliation, it would sound something like this... but a LOT less awesome. If you're skeptical or just uninitiated, Wicked Celtics is "buttrock" incarnate. Buttrock refers to that subborn modern-rock radio playlist that includes the likes of Nickelback, Creed, 3 Doors Down, etc. After the 90's, you'd think most would be over this crude form of expression, but alas, millions upon millions of people perpetuate this very low art. Wicked Celtics is one of those people.
