Black Keys Opening for Dr. Dog on Valentine's Day?
From the Department of Unconfirmed Rumors That Are Probably Not True: It has been brought to the Cream's attention that the site Eventful had a listing up all day yesterday showing The Black Keys as scheduled performers for the Feb. 14 Dr. Dog show at Mercy Lounge. Dr. Dog--or as I like to call them, Snoop Dre--have toured with The Black Keys before, so the idea of having them on as a Hallmark Day surprise isn't terribly far fetched. Maybe they could even collaborate on a live cover of Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog."![]()
The Mercy fired over an email saying, "We keep getting calls about it. It is not real as far as anyone who works here knows--unless they are planning to be the secret opening act for Dr. Dog. If that's the case, we still don't know anything about it." One source close to The Black Keys said, unequivocally, that the band is not playing, but that this could (possibly) be a Dan Auerbach solo appearance. Another source close to the band said, "I don't know shit about shit." Eventful has since updated the status of the event as "withdrawn." However, the Black Keys are also listed as performers on Tourfilter and Bands in Town (although I assume all these sites get their information from the same source). So, does anyone know anything about this? Does anyone care?
