Tradition Ain't What It Used to Be: Hank Williams Jr., John McCain and Sarah Palin

Posted October 14, 2008 at 01:00:49 PM by Steve Haruch

And you thought "Raisin' McCain" was stupid. (It is.) You also may have thought there is nothing sadder than Elton John rewriting the lyrics to one of his own songs to fit the story of the day. That was true...until now!

Cream readers, I give you Hank Jr., singing his "new" anti-liberal-media anthem, "McCain Palin-Tradition." Oh yes, it's that bad.

John and Sarah tell you just what they think
They're not gonna blink
And they don't have radical friends to whom their careers are linked

Just when this video gets really excruciating, Junior goes into a bizarre ad lib and loses his place in the song, so at least you can chuckle a little bit before the pain returns.

I knew Hank Jr. wasn't a good singer, but I had no idea how dreadfully awful he is! Yikes! I think he's an undercover Obama operative.

Hank has obviously forgotten why he rolled smokes to begin with. Some outlaw he turned out to be.

To Greatjob: I think he was trying to get the monitor turned up so he could hear himself.

That was fucking awful, by the way. Embarrassing.

Haha "Fox," that's what I was going to say! Most elitist country song ever.

The youtube comments on this video are priceless. Here's an example from poster ProudAmerican: "This is a Great song!, it tells it like it is, somethng the looney left cant handle!". Wow! What's looney is to listen to this and call it "great". It's one thing to support the republican ticket, it's another to drink so much Kool-Aid that this ends up sounding like music.

I saw Jr. cuss out a waitress at the Peabody because she didn't recognize his drinking buddy was John Candy's son.

I wonder if this really pumps the conservative base up, because it really scares the shit outta me!

There used to be a myspace page called 'Tanked Hank' that had clips of him playing a show completely and utterly wasted and it was the highlight of my life for about two months, but now it's been taken down. Anybody know where I can get those clips? They were like drops of joy from heaven.

Larry Mell said:

again, no disrespect intended. drunk shows are just great.
