Tonight at City Hall: a Huge Pile of Gravel

By now everyone knows the story of our ill-fated neighbors in the Gulch. Some say the sound at City Hall was bad. Others say it was really bad. Either way, it’s soon to be full of as much hipster apparel as can be forced into 12,000 square feet of acoustically terrible space.

Even with Urban Outfitters opening as soon as early 2009, who would have expected the place to be gutted less than three weeks after its last show? They did bring us some pretty spectacular artists—Dinosaur Jr., Broken Social Scene, Built to Spill, Spoon and The Black Keys to name a few—but now the place looks like a soundstage for a faked moon landing. Perhaps they deserve a moment of silence. More pictures of the carnage after the jump.

I will always remember the July 9th Ween show with fondness...

Speaking of faked moon landings, I used to live in Big Red, which are those lofts connected to the Cannery. I remember when I was moving out, this older gentleman was moving in down the hall. I got to know him and it turns out he's the guy who made the movie that advocates that the moon landings were a hoax, and as such, he has been punched out by both Armstrong and Aldrin. Last I heard he still lived down there. Anybody heard of this guy?

Guess I'll be daydreaming of the Decemberists & Gillian Welch in a whale costume while perusing overpriced plain tshirts soon...

Seriously--the worst sound ever! I went to what I can imagine were really good shows--if I could hear them. I did appreciate the signs for the bathrooms however......

It seems like kind of a bad time to open a huge new store. I heard somewhere that the economy is in bad shape.

I heard the economy was good for all of those people who took out no down payment loans to live in those places in the gulch. Those are not the people who took risky loans. What with Tony G's Signature Tower rising soon and that big hole off of West End/Broadway soon to be filled there's no reason to be defeatist about this economy. McCain said a few months ago the fundamentals of the economy were strong and he's running for President so who are we to question his judgement?

It's perfectly reasonable replace 328 on Steroids (City Hall: same shitty sound as 328 but now with higher ceilings!) with an Urban Outfitters. How long until UO figures out how to use the Station Inn for marketing?

now why don't we have a good mid-sized venue in town? if war memorial was used more than 3 times a year it would be fine but damn man...

McCain said the fundamentals of the economy are strong because American workers work hard. I am an American worker, & I don't work hard AT ALL. I get the feeling a lot of them are surfing the internet on their work computers all day. OH NO, THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE ECONOMY ARE FUCKED!

Anyone heard from the former City Hall owners? Last I heard they were looking for a new place to create a new mid-sized venue. Is it gonna happen?

That Ween show was spectacular. The 4 song encore made me accidently set off the fire alarm after the show. Looking foward to a better venue. Primus sucks.
