Nashville native and legendary banjo picker Eddie Adcock has performed with Bill Monroe, The Country Gentlemen and countless other bluegrass heavyweights over the years. Recently, however, Adcock developed debilitating hand-tremors that severely limited his abilities and led to surgery.

The procedure—in which several electrodes were implanted in his brain—was performed while Adcock was under local anesthesia. He played his banjo throughout the entire procedure in order to test its effectiveness. The surgery took place at the Vanderbilt Medical Center and was filmed by a surgeon.
