Tonight: Wax Fang & Ghostfinger @ The 5 Spot

Look, I know there's Americana out the wazoo going on right now. And if you've never seen Jason & the Scorchers, tonight's Ryman gig is an excellent time to do it--possibly your last chance. It is $45 bones though. Well, they play again tonight at 11 p.m. at Mercy Lounge, but you'll need the $35 AMA wristband. And that's probably really your last chance.
A more affordably priced show awaits at The 5 Spot for only $7, and that one features locals Ghostfinger and Kentuckians Wax Fang. Wax Fang always blast it out live, and they're one of those bands I was heartbroken to hear never listened to math-rock wizards Polvo. Really? Even with all those bendy/mangled guitar parts and stop-on-a-dime time changes? Really? Then I recommended they check it out and they thought it was cool but didn't really get into it. As Stabert would say: tear.
Anyway, do it. It's pretty and squawky and classic-rocky and shouty and all-around a really shrewd mix of influences. Even if Polvo ain't one of them.

Comments
Louisville called and they want Wax Fang to go home and stop playing Nashville every week.Someone should relay the message to those guys.
Posted 09/18/2008 at 08:00:05 PMWoah, is that Triple H in the middle?
Posted 09/18/2008 at 10:26:38 PMThe Scorchers were only supposed to play one song tonight. THey are playing a full set at the cannery soon---maybe this weekend?
Posted 09/18/2008 at 11:13:39 PMThis was a great show except for when WF's on-stage projector showed that surgery. I'm squeamish.
Posted 09/19/2008 at 08:37:32 AMDid anyone catch Trace Adkins last night at the Pub Crawl? Did he play Honky Tonk Badonkadonk?!?
Posted 09/19/2008 at 09:14:30 AMin case you missed ghostfinger last week, and the week before, and week before that....what, no Jeff show to report?
this is getting absurd.
Posted 09/19/2008 at 09:54:59 AMI guess the blog writers think that if they cover a bullshit band enough people will be brainwashed into thinking it's good music.Seems to be working, more JEFF and Ghostfinger coverage. They should change their name to "shitfinger", that would describe the music a lot better.
Posted 09/19/2008 at 12:42:32 PMGhostfinger is a great act. Haven't seen Jeff, and am not a huge fan of their recordings. . but several people I know have raved about their live show. . .I'm sure it's just a matter of time before i happen upon one of their shows and am too converted. . .If there was nothing special about these bands I'm sure the hype wouldn't have lasted anywhere near this long.
Posted 09/19/2008 at 06:54:04 PMi'm still not sure why the writers would care if anyone likes the music they dig.
why you guys have to make a fucking conspiracy out of everything?
