Comments
I may go, but only if Steve promises me that I'll not hear a single Vampire Weekend song all evening.
Posted 08/22/2008 at 09:29:35 AMPromises are shit.
Posted 08/22/2008 at 10:33:05 AMnothing going on except for that really killer bill at the 5spot with Mattoid, Dave Cloud and Ham 1 from Athens which are, in my opinion, the best band out of there, these days. Have fun!
Posted 08/22/2008 at 11:48:05 AMand an amazing line up of heavy post-rock at Springwater.
Posted 08/22/2008 at 01:01:52 PMDon't you have anything better to do than network for the Mattoid every chance you get? Get a life dude!!
Posted 08/22/2008 at 01:02:24 PMI'd rather see the bands playing at the 5spot than any of these stupid bands.
Posted 08/22/2008 at 02:15:35 PMYea, there are some other good things going on around town (that Ham1 show is very tempting) but The Cream show will be a good time. Andy did a great job with the poster... he always does.
Posted 08/22/2008 at 02:35:05 PMHeaven forbid the Cream advertise for a show! By all means let's have a pissing contest! Who's show is better?? Come on come on....let us all know so that we understand how hipster to be tonight.
Posted 08/22/2008 at 02:36:01 PMI'm sure both shows will be well-attended and masterfully performed! Bravo to everyone involved!
Posted 08/22/2008 at 03:03:44 PMBrother Henry is headlining a solid lineup in the kick off of a 4 concert series in Sevier Park Saturday night BEFORE the Cream party. 5-9pm you can picnic in the park with your kids or your sweetie and dig some music in the great outdoors. 12th ave south at Kirkwood.
Scott 76, Shawn Byrne and Farewell Drifters play Sept 6...
Posted 08/22/2008 at 04:04:36 PMThe Mattiod is fucking stupid!!
Posted 08/22/2008 at 04:57:18 PMNashvilleRock.net has updated the Rage Against the Scene feature and talks about the Cream party amongst many other things. Enjoy!
Posted 08/22/2008 at 06:03:17 PMwhy should we read that shit when you'll probably be there?
Posted 08/22/2008 at 06:30:47 PMBecause you want to.
Posted 08/22/2008 at 07:25:29 PMChris/Enraged,
Now, now...don't generalize everything here.
As far as the last paragraph of your new rant goes, the Scene does cover "decent" music, but, in my opinion, rarely anything above that. Same goes for your website..."decent", but rarely anything above that. It could just be my taste, but Nashville doesn't have much in the realm of "amazing". Good, yes. Amazing? Eh...
As for all of the other comments go...there isn't another record store other than Grimey's where I can find a used Leæther Strip album and Duke Ellington's "Anatomy of a Murder" sdtk for less than 7 bucks each (you'd say Great Escape, but I've tried). I read Pitchfork because in the past 8 years they've turned me on to some of my favorite bands (Mclusky, Giddy Motors) and briefed me in on events I wouldn't have been clued in on otherwise (shows in Atlanta and/or Birmingham, regarding bands such as Mclusky, Oxes, Melvins, Shellac, Mission of Burma, Man or Astro Man?, etc). As for oversized glasses...c'mon...douches wear blue jeans...does that make them bad?
It's this generalization that makes these comments lack the "oomph" they desire. I read the Scene, shop at Grimey's, wear big glasses, read Pitchfork, but what the hell is Watermark? Where the hell is McFadden's? Fuck Bright Eyes (if it'll shut him up), and sweaters are for winter months (when those size 0 pant kiddies should technically be gaining weight)! See? I don't completely fit in, do I?
Folks who listen to Indie rock tend to listen to a slew of other things. If you're going to generalize and wish to attack sub-genres, attack the emo kids that provide Hot Topic with more store openings in suburban malls everywhere.
(For those of you who think I'm generalizing with my emo and Hot Topic comments, know that I do recognize that Hot Topic, as a store, used to carry many more styles of music and clothing that matched up with said styles of music. They don't do that as much as they used to because it's not as profitable [personal experience since 1996] . Also, having tried to have conversations with many "emo" kids, they don't seem to listen to much else other than what their [most likely EX-] significant other listens to, and they don't really have a grasp on that either.)
That's my take on your take. What are all of your takes? Regardless, go see Courtney Tidwell. She is one of Nashville's and yet rises above the title of "local".
Cheers!
Posted 08/22/2008 at 08:10:26 PMI booked the 5spot show! I'm a show champion! yeehaw! seriously HAM 1 is totally worth going to check out. Dave won't have super wicked lick master Matt Bach but he'll bring it... and earlier- by the way. Gospel of Power is on first. Ham 1 is second and sooooooo gooooooood! (download their albums if you like: www.ham1.org) Then the Mattoid will get totally stupid! There's also an instore at the groove earlier in the evening. Is there an echo in here???
Posted 08/23/2008 at 01:13:17 AMthe party was way fun.
Posted 08/24/2008 at 01:33:09 AM'Twas. But what's up with the door prizes? Where's my iPod Shuffle?
Posted 08/24/2008 at 10:54:10 AMthe party WAS fun.
Posted 08/24/2008 at 11:28:58 AMthe party with The Mattoid, I mean!
Why was CT's set so short?
Posted 08/25/2008 at 09:14:39 AMThey never let edie brickell play for more than 15 minutes,I've always heard that.
Posted 08/25/2008 at 09:37:43 AMThat might be the most idiotic thing I've ever seen posted on here, and that's saying a lot. Congrats nameless douchebag.
Considering at that all the sets were only 5 songs, Cortney's was only one song shorter. They just spent less time gabbing and tuning between songs.
Posted 08/25/2008 at 09:51:15 AM"Cortney Tidwell" was actually a lot better when it was called "Edie Brickell and the the New Bohemians".
Posted 08/25/2008 at 11:06:10 AM
Posted 08/25/2008 at 12:03:02 PMCortney can sing rings around Brickell. You obviously have no fucking idea what youre talking about. I never heard Edie Brickel sing psychadelic rock or anything remotely close to what Cortney does. Cortney has a waaay more powerful and beautiful voice than said douchebagette
I personally think Edie Brickell can sing a lot better and a lot more attractive.
Posted 08/25/2008 at 12:44:17 PMyou guys are going to mess around and get that 'what i am is what i am' song stuck in my head for the rest of the day, and i'm going to be well pissed.
Posted 08/25/2008 at 02:21:14 PMWhat does Popeye have to do with any of this?
Posted 08/25/2008 at 03:02:31 PMI'm glad someone finally said it.Whats the big deal about Cortney Tidwell anyway? She has some vocal ability yes,but she isn't very original at all.
Posted 08/25/2008 at 05:25:54 PMEdie Brickell was pretty hot,Courtney Tidwell...uggggg!!!!!!
Posted 08/26/2008 at 02:17:03 PMgoddamn! can it get anymore shallow around here.
Posted 08/26/2008 at 04:38:30 PMEdie Brickell??? Cortney T. sounds more like bjork-lite. Is this so painfully obvious that no one wants to admit it? by the way, did anyone ever see cortney tidwell's earlier bands? like nova?? less atmospheric mumbo jumbo, and more joy division. wish they'd return to that kind of sound...
Posted 08/27/2008 at 07:07:00 AMNova was great but she has matured much since then. I think she and bjork have similar tone but she isnt "bjork lite". Her new stuff is pretty ballsy and actually sounds nothing like bjork. This blog loves to hate on talented people. I just dont get it.
Posted 08/27/2008 at 12:38:44 PM"Ballsy"?What the fuck kind of description is that? Her vocal ability is mediocre and she doesn't have a creative bone in her body.Just the sad truth.
Posted 08/27/2008 at 02:15:36 PMyour sad truth is only truth to you. youre entitled to your opinion, and it's shit. this woman is far more creative than most in this town. jealous much?
Posted 08/27/2008 at 09:09:09 PMOh your right, she's the most creative musician in town.My mistake. You are seriously joking right?I hope so because if you aren't it may be time for you to seek outside help.
