Breaking News: Will Hoge in Critical Condition
According to our sources, the victim in this scooter crash—which took place last night at 7th and Main St. in East Nashville—was local musician Will Hoge. He is currently in critical condition at Vanderbilt.
Notice that the police officer interviewed says the responsibility falls on the "motorcylce/scooter rider," because they are in a smaller vehicle. I should really go get myself a Hummer, then nothing would be my fault.
The Cream wishes Hoge a speedy recovery.
**Update: Hoge's condition has been upgraded to stable. Well wishes can be posted at willhoge.com or at myspace.com/willhoge.

He survived overnight, his chances of pulling through should be better. WereI'm not a religious person, but
Posted 08/21/2008 at 01:57:34 PMI'm really sorry to hear this news. I've seen more and more scooters up and down Gallatin Road than ever. Please everyone, be careful on the road. Get well Will.
Posted 08/21/2008 at 01:59:23 PMThere needs to be more awareness by 4-wheeled drivers of all the bikes/scooters/motorcycles on the road. Those of us on two wheels know the extra risk we are taking, but all it takes is a little extra effort on everyone's part to prevent these kinds of collisions. My roommate Katie and I are starting a grassroots campaign to raise driver awareness around Nashville (we'd love to join forces with everyone already doing so) - please let us know if you'd like to be a part.
Posted 08/21/2008 at 03:09:33 PMHonestly, that police officer should know better. All motorists are responsible for safety on the roads... maybe he should go back to driver ed? It's too bad that it takes one of Nashville's staple musicians to have an accident for anyone to pay attention. PLEASE be aware of those driving around you...
Posted 08/21/2008 at 03:28:57 PMHe didn't say "responsibility", he said "burden", as in it is the driver of the scooter's burden to take extra care since they are harder to see. He isn't blaming him for the wreck.
Posted 08/21/2008 at 04:00:41 PMYes, he said "burden," but he still twisted it to make it look like Will's fault. There's likely NOTHING Will could have done to prevent this accident, no matter how careful he was being. The fact of the matter is that when you're on two wheels, it's harder to swerve or brake hard. It's the van's fault, and "I didn't see him" is no excuse.
Posted 08/22/2008 at 07:56:00 AMThis is such a shame. Will Hoge is not only one of my favorite musicians, but just a great guy to be around. I wish him all the best.
