Because Vowels Have No Place on the Dancefloor: MSTRKRFT Return to Nashville

While at least half a dozen of you are bound to disagree, it can be damn hard to get awesome electronic bands to stop in Nashville. My own efforts to get bands like Crystal Castles and YACHT to play here have failed miserably. Hence, it pleases me greatly to hear that the MSTRKRFT Fist of God Tour is coming to Mercy Lounge on Friday, Oct. 17. Amongst other special guests, this tour includes Vancouver DJ Felix Cartal. If his live set is anything like the raw electro power I'm hearing on this mixtape right now, this may even be one of the rare occasions I break out some dance moves of my own. Other guests include local DJ and valued Cream commenter Justin Kase. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.

I think I just pee'd a little in my capris...
Posted 08/21/2008 at 10:37:13 AMI’m glad you guys are starting to cover electronica artists, but MSTRKRFT is not a band. Its 2 guys that do a DJ set. Unless, I’m mistaken and they’ve changed their act since the last time I saw them.
And Seth the show @ Play was a co-headlining tour/gig with John Digweed, one of the biggest dance music DJs in the scene.
None the less this will be a great show and Justin Kase will also be in the bill.
Posted 08/21/2008 at 11:02:52 AMmstrkrft was not on the bill with beck and they've only dj'd here once, opening for john digweed. (unless you count the time that jfk was djing at grimey's for the dfa79 in store before mstrkrft was even conceived)
felix cartal isn't 100% confirmed for nashville yet, but i'm sure that he will be soon.
i am on the bill if that's any consolation.
Posted 08/21/2008 at 11:06:02 AMyeah. i'm aware of who Digweed is. I'm just reeeeaaallly not a fan, and i've never had fun at PLAY. hence i wasn't about to shell out $30 + to go see them.
i don't want to get into the whole "what's a band, what's not a band" debate, but... during their live sets, MSTRKRFT uses a laptop/cd player setup and performs a DJ set largely comprised of their own material. I've seen them twice this year, and was actually a little disappointed upon discovering this when i first caught them at SXSW. "In the studio Jesse and Al use Pro Tools along with a complement of hardware synthesizers and drum machines such as the Roland SH101, the Sequential Circuits Prophet 600, the Roland TR-909 which they mainly use to 'trigger older synths' and TR-707, the Moog Voyager, the Roland Super Jupiter, and the Korg MS-20." [paraphrased from wikipedia]
electronic instruments + humans programming them = what i prefer to call a band
And Justin, I stand corrected. Travis Archer was really scrambling to try and get tickets to the Beck show cause he was apparently under the misconception MSTRKRFT were opening, and that's the only reason I assumed they played.
Also, I didn't see on your myspace that you were opening till after i posted this. I think some Edits are in order.
Posted 08/21/2008 at 11:18:43 AMno worries, the new music page just went up. lol

Everyone give Lenore some love when you see her.
Posted 08/21/2008 at 01:14:36 PMFor the Mercy people..
I’d like to know how this act is any different then any other genre of dance music? Is it the crowd that’s different? I’ve heard through the grape vine the Mercy/Cannery will no longer support the dance music format?

Here's what's different: No glow sticks. No spray paint. Fewer dilated pupils. People who drink liquor and tip the bartenders, not orange juice and bitch about us charging for it.
We love certain dance shows. In fact, anyone who knows me knows I generally prefer electronic music to other genres. I've booked Girl Talk twice here. I want Jensen Sportag and Club Sportag play here as often as they can. In fact, we've got other shows in the indie-electronic genre that will be announced soon.
If you can get Hot Chip or CSS or Cut Copy or Phoenix to play here, I will personally go to bat for it. We just don't throw raves here.

I've always found that hilarious. Vitamin C has absolutely no effect on your seratonin levels, so the only thing they'd hope to get from said beverage is a fuckin sugar rush. The Florida Citrus Growers probably invented that story...
Posted 08/21/2008 at 04:41:22 PMBlue,
what's funny is that you'll probably have about the same amount of 18-20 year old kids at this show as you would a "rave". although raves don't really exist any more..they haven't for a number of years now...
and i'm really laughing at the ojay comment. it just goes to show about how much you really know of the dance scene here in nashville..
Either way..good luck with the show.
