Lock Up Your Daughters: Crispin Hellion Glover LIVE At The Belcourt!

Posted July 30, 2008 at 03:27:52 PM by Jim Ridley

OK, so it's not exactly music, but...actor/author/musician/filmmaker Crispin Hellion Glover will appear Sept. 5 and 6 at the Belcourt in a combination slideshow performance, Q&A and screening of his 2006 whatthefucksterpiece What Is It? Slant's Ed Gonzalez provides a brief yet illuminating synopsis:

"It is the story of a community of people with Down Syndromes whose bipolar relationship to snails is linked to an underworld where Glover reigns supreme as a Caligula-esque "auteur" with castration anxiety and one of many naked monkey women (!) sits on a watermelon (!!) while slowly stroking the cock (!!!) of a man with cerebral palsy (!!!!) who lies in the fetal position inside a big oyster (!!!!!). This all happens before a Nazi Shirley Temple doll begins to communicate telepathically with the mental handicaps above ground, commanding them to do away with a black-faced Mr. Bojangles-type who claims to be Michael-fucking-Jackson."

That again? Tickets are $18 advance, $20 at the door.

Matthew Barney called. He said he's already done this. Five times. With a bigger budget.

Yes you could say he has been influenced by both of the filmmakers mentioned no question. He is still a very unique artistic entity, and it's great that Nashville is starting to have events like this.
