Hollow Ox, Vialka & Mass at Dawn: Tonight @ The Basement

If you feel like getting ambient, international and avant tonight, head over to The Basement, where dreamy, mellifluous local vibesters Hollow Ox headline, and French cacophonous/Captain Beefheart-y duo Vialka open. If finding out that these globe-trotters played with someone like, say, Damo Suzuki piques your pickles, then you might be interested to know that they've played with Damo Suzuki. Also on the bill is local (and Grimey's dude) Dylan Simon's exercise in hypnosis, Mass at Dawn.

I didn't realize music like this existed in Nashville. HO are no Auburn Lull, but they aint bad. Aint bad at all. :)
Posted 07/10/2008 at 04:32:16 PMi feel like the recordings don't do them justice, either. Hollow Ox is a lot more engrossing live. and PLEASE come out to support Vialka. let's just say they've had a rough couple of days leading up to tonite, so they could use some support!
Posted 07/10/2008 at 05:21:44 PMAre we sure Vialka is opening for Hollow Ox? I don't get off work till like 10:30 and I don't want to miss them.

Posted 07/10/2008 at 05:28:30 PMit was a great night. mass at dawn tapped into the stratosphere and brought outer space to earth. vialka with their tight start/stops and jazz like compositions were a cross between zappa and a trapeze act. it was a good thing i promise. hollow ox with their suitcase full of stompbox toys took us to outer space and to the year 2012. wish there were more nights like this around town.

We don't use Quadraverbs :)
Posted 07/11/2008 at 11:25:59 AMGreat show. Toward the end, the drummer from Vialka pulled Cole off the stage and beat his ass. Exciting? Believe it!
Posted 07/11/2008 at 12:36:32 PMCole from Hollow Ox played with Damo Suzuki when Damo played in Nashville...

Posted 07/11/2008 at 02:32:56 PMwhat a brilliant night. dylan and louisa were great. gorgeous drones.
vialka was like a circus tent on DMT. the drummer was really channeling creepy vaudville vibe.
hollow ox shimmered into spacey bliss. although they seemed loud as hell. thats a good thing.
Posted 07/11/2008 at 03:29:48 PMThis was awesome,it's about time Nashville was graced with a little experimental music besides the Indy-Pop-Singalong-B.S. recorded at Battletapes that is so prevalent right now!
Posted 07/11/2008 at 05:11:42 PMwhy ruin a perfectly positive post. oh yeah. it wouldn't be nashville cream unless we had a negative comment or two. take note. it is all about building up. not tearing down. get it? yes it is a good thing that this show went on, but don't ruin it by posting negatively about the other guy. it is all a vicious cycle.
Posted 07/15/2008 at 09:27:04 AMTobin, you really need to get out of your mom's basement more often.
Posted 07/15/2008 at 10:20:56 AMHey bsonic, have you thought about forming your own commune? You guys could dance around to De Novo Dahl's "shout" while passing around a peace pipe and telling everyone how great they are.No wonder jared micah thinks this music scene is so lame?Nobody is allowed to be honest about anything, and if they are they aren't part of the group anymore.Maybe you should audition for the new 90210.
