Does It Offend You, Yeah? Play 12th & Porter Sept. 8
Ah, British party bands with synthy swells and danceable beats. Add Reading's Does it Offend You, Yeah? to the list. And, if you like Bloc Party's interpretation of The Cure, with bit parts of Justice and Daft Punk thrown in, you'd probably dig this amalgamation. I've listened to the record a bit, and it ranges from excellent electro-pop dance riotz to straight-up cheeseball jagged synth-pop. Which makes it damn good fun (shit storm, commence). Why they're playing 12th & Porter is a mystery to me—this is the first booking in recent memory there that's even piqued my interest.

Posted 07/15/2008 at 12:19:41 PMand don't forget Broken Social Scene played there on their first visit to Nashville. It's not the club sometimes as much as the promoter. I believe Chris Cobb booked this show there.
Posted 07/15/2008 at 01:05:29 PMAw, I saw Beulah at 12th and Porter - that was one of the first shows I saw in Nashville. I also saw my very first Spoon show there and fell madly, head-over-heels in love.
This will get me back to 12th and Porter for sure. And damn - between Next Big Nashville, this, and all the other goodness going on in September, I had better start doing liver exercises.

Also one person's damn good fun is another's meaningless & empty garbage which will be discarded for another meaningless 'fun' band in 6 months
Posted 07/15/2008 at 03:50:16 PMI remember the Beulah, BSS & Spoon shows. 12th definitely had some good ones back then, and D-Funk's right: It's not always the club; it's the promoter. I think John Bruton was the promoter back then. I guess that's why the good shows these days usually seem to end up at Mercy.
Posted 07/15/2008 at 04:52:51 PMThey're also having a very Un-12th and Porter show next weekend when The Protomen play, even though they've traditionally played The End and (more recently) Mercy Lounge. I hope the place is getting back on its feet, it's a nice little club that should do well under the right promoter.
If Exit/In does go under next year, then a lot of these places are just going to have to step the hell up to keep touring bands coming through here.

The single, "We Are Rockstars" debuted as a free d/l in 2006, their debut LP (2008) essentially is just like Justice's. an album to showcase their blog tested and approved music to the pop masses. it's full of dance floor material that is ancient in blog years but that will be as easily revisited in the years to come just as it is at this time.
