Who gives a rat's ass about Bonaroo? Why the hell aren't you writing about last night's Cortney Tidwell show? That was a festival of its own. Her new stuff is amazing! And if she's GOT to record that duet with Kurt Wagner of that Don Williams song or else the world will be a poorer place. Come on Nashville Cream: champion your own!

i think the whole bonnaroo-losing-touch-with-its-hippie-roots angle is a little outdated. i mean, tool and the police headlined last year. beck and radiohead the year before. not to mention, bands like sonic youth, death cab, franz ferdinand, hot chip, girl talk, MIA (though not anymore, apparently), dresden dolls, be your own pet, etc etc have been all over that thing.

hippies take to the festival scene like a duck to water, so of course jam bands are always going to be necessary, but that aspect has really become a minimal and isolated part of it in the latter half of its existence.

anyone who's been recently knows this thing has pretty much shed the whole hippie stigma by now and has a much wider appeal.

but at the same time, i know first hand that journalist always need some shit to write about - a particular angle to use and make things interesting - often times knowing damn well it's highly inaccurate.

i'm just saying... it's pretty uninformed for a cover story.

OMG is that reefer?

ps. I'd had loved to go to the CT show, but like so many other shows, it started too late for this gnome.

JD said:

Actually, CT was on second so even gnomes would have got some shut eye. Assuming they could sleep after that. She promised more rock next week too...

CT if you're out there: play first next week and I'll show up.

I should write for this blog said:

fucking metallica at the basement bitches!!!!!!!!

Hey, it's about time a band played there that wasn't some indie rock bullshit.

Does anyone have any Nerve music. I would like to play some Sunday night in honor of Mr Rhodes.

Bonnaroo is just trying to do what the UK has done for years....They try but they don't have enough British bands to make me wanna go. I wouldn't mind seeing these bands on the bill do a RIVERSTAGES type thing, but no festival in the middle of nowhere in mud for me.

JD is right, CT was amazing. That last song she played gave me goosebumps.

Seriously, what was up with Metallica playing the Basement last night??? I am not even secretly devastated that NO ONE TOLD ME. This has ruined my Friday the 13th.

Michael said:

They did. The crowd was mostly label people, Metallica fan club members and a bunch of randoms about town that were lucky enough to get on the Grimeys list. Oh, and American Bang was escorted in before anyone else.. natche.

After all those people were left in the 15 or so people left waiting outside were told they could hang on the smoking porch and watch the event through the door but not to go in - as it could incur the wrath of the Fire Marshall.

Everyone was very respectful of that and it was nice of Doyle and Grimey to let the stragglers oggle the event. I only listened to about 3 songs but it was pretty hilarious / amazing that Metallica actually played The Basement last night.

Michael, fuck off. Grow a pair and listen to some real goddamn music for once. I'm sure you had to run home and put on some Sigour Ros and cry in the corner for a few hours.

3 songs??? Fuckin' dipshit. The BEST rock band of our generation. 3 songs. Shit, dude.
