From the Rumor Mill: BYOP Break up?

Inside sources are giving us stories of alleged on-tour fist fights and rumors of a potential break-up of local major-label teen punks Be Your Own Pet.

Their publicist says it isn't true, but did confirm that the band has just canceled their upcoming Warped Tour dates.

Anybody know anything we don't?

Maybe its just a short hiatus so they can actually learn how to play instruments and sing before they tour anymore?

Fist fights?I mean who could imagine that happening when you put four coked-out spoiled brats in an Econoline and drive them around for several weeks?Ha ha ha ha!!!!

HighonLife said:

Coked out? Yeah, you really know these guys well. Were you the driver of the van?...HA HA HA!!?!

First the Pink Spiders, now BYOP? I hope this is true. One less spoiled teeny "punk" band in Nashville. Great news!

is there any truth to the breakup rumor?

surewood said:

Hey Malina....
lets get 1 of our bands that broke up back together.
We could use a good coke binge and a fist fight.

bob said:

If that "bob" is directed at me, I certainly hope not.
I think the new record is great.
If I'm not the "bob", it's your turn, bob!

john said:

Oh no! What will The Scene talk about after they break up? The hope for a reunion?

Hackelope said:

Poor troll. Life under your bridge is no fun.

jimmy said:

I am sure the will all form even worse side projects that will get all kinds of press, kind of like Jeff.

Hackelope said:

So now contributing to the post, I never picked up a sense of real unity that most find necessary for friendship/business partner longevity.

But I don't have much to go on, and I would prefer not to assume anything... maybe they've hit a creative fork in the road.

supernova said:

Yeah Jimmy, they've already started doing that Turbo Fruits,ect...

casio said:

you guys calm down.

this probably isn't even true.

i mean, i just stole it from Nashvillest, anyway.

HighonLife said:

Fuck it, you're right Jess, I should just stop denying it.

If the breakup rumours are true, it's because some of the band members are tired of the others abusing their drug connections. When Nathan put our Big Nurse tape out 2 years ago it had packets of coke inside the tape case! Cuz he had so much of it, he was like, fuck dude, I might as well get everybody else hooked on coke too!

Look at the picture. They're all like "Fuuuuuck. I shouldn't have done all that coke, gotten into a fistfight, and bought this shitty Econoline van. GodDAMN it. We'll never hear the end of it on Nashville Cream NOW."

I also know they hate Jews, drink only expired milk, and fuck sheep with Downs Syndrome. Anybody wanna rip em for that?

james said:

My question is could anyone play as out of time and out of key as they do if they weren't on coke?Maybe they should start giving out packets of coke with their cds, that would make it easier to understand the complex technical structure of their music.

DG said:

Breaking news: "chops" obsessed nitwits attempt to run down yet another local band whose skills they don't rate.

Oh wait, that was breaking news from TWENTY YEARS AGO, when any band that played Elliston Square was written off by that kind of fool.

Why don't you morons do us all a favor and limit your comments to reviews of fusion acts at Sunday jazz brunches?

james said:

Sorry DG,everyone must of forgot about you title as chief of blog police and how they have to run comments by you before they post them.God forbid you have posts on here that discuss the compositional make-up of music. Is it ok if I post "oh my gauud byop is the awesomiest band in the world, for sure",maybe that will meet your approval?

Matt S. said:

James, I don't really see how you're confusing what's going on in this here comments section as that type of discussion.

James said:

Matt is this not a music blog site?

penelope said:

Sorry to disappoint all the "haters" on here but it's not true. OH..and thanks for promoting the cause and keeping their name alive and well!

Judo said:

I hope they're using this time off to rehearse.

Glady said:

Thats the best advice you could give them.

jon said:

please please please let there footage of these weaklings punching each other...

Matt S. said:

Debating whether or not a band uses cocaine isn't exactly discussing "the compositional make-up of music."

megan said:

I'm glad they aren't breaking up!

james said:

Matt are "timing" and "key" not simple elements of musical composition?

Zach said:

Gawd. You people make me laugh and feel guilty about it. First off, leave jazz out of it, it did nothing to hurt you. Second, doesn't every band in this town have at least one member that does drugs? So, who gives a shit? Third, my two cents, their side projects are not that good. But, BYOP does give Nashville just that much more attention, which is good for all.

Lance said:

Dude, it's a punk band. You're looking for proper music composition and theory application in the wrong genre.

Luke said:

Just because they can't tune instruments or play in time doesn't make them punk rock. The best thing this band could do for Nashville is call it quits.

nilbog said:

high on life,

if they only drink expired milk it's possible the members of byop are becoming goblins.

i cite the movie Troll 2 as proof.

Mrs. Smith said:

I might kick myself later but here goes.

Up until recently, I had written off BYOP as what some would call less than musically interesting. As some of you might know, (especially Casio and Matt S.) I can be really hard to win over musically. But my husband brought home the new record that BYOP just put out and after a few listens, I was totally changed. Yes, there are some songs (mainly just one) that is less than great. However, this is punk and I mean really. And I like it...a lot! It's fun and funny which I believe is what they're going for. If you're totally closed to that, then of course you won't like it. But at least give their records a listen. And come on. Nobody NOBODY plays in key or sings in key all the time. Not even the Mars Volta (but i still love Cedric's pipes!) But I don't expect that from balls to the wall punk rock! I remember Jemina from Rock in Roll Girls Camp. She's a great show woman. No really, she is! It's fucking HARD to be that comfortable on stage without an instrument in hand and her delivery is excellent. It's GREAT to see how far she's come and not to mention refreshing. I think I can speak for all the people who have ever volunteered at SGRRC when I say that this is what we're hoping for...for the girls to not to be scared of making music! Whether or not everyone likes it is completely null and void. I'm getting on my high horse now, but I can appreciate what they're doing and GODDAMMIT, I can't get that Ninja Turtles song out of my head!

spaceman said:

I haven't looked at this blog in months, and what do you know? It's the same old bullshit that isn't worth my time. As I duck out the door, I'd like to say that BYOP are pretty crap, yes, and the best thing they could do is break up...because that would free up Turbofruits and I can dig that.

Big John said:

I'm not sure Mrs. Smith,we might be talking about different bands,I saw "Be Your Own Pet" live and it seemed like they didn't even know how to play their instruments. Putting your heart into things is great but surely something be said for ability or at least making the effort to learn something?

Matt S. said:

Two people cannot possibly like different things. Someone is obviously in the wrong. You two should probably argue about it.

Cokey McSnortF#*k said:

BYOP is one of the best bands to grace the Nashville Music Scene in a long time. They might not be able to tap "Eruption" or play drums to "Roundabout", but I doubt they want to. They are full of attitude and can write a catchy punk song that people all over the world love... and that son of a b that makes their records is pretty talented as well. Leave em' alone, they are super nice kids (that evidently punch each other, dont F#*k with Jemina!) who have done more for this music scene than most of our bands combined.

Mark said:

They finally let the gimp out of the trunk and allowed them to comment.
