The Wandering Wino: Go Out Drinking and Take a Cab Home

A Cab Sav that is...

Vinea is featuring Cabernet Sauvignons from around the world at their semi-regular weekend tasting 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at neighboring cheese shop Corrieri's Formaggeria.

The lineup includes:
2008 Parados Cabernet Sauvignon - Argentina $10.99
2007 Penalolen Cabernet Sauvignon - Chile - $18.99
2007 Pisoni Cabernet Sauvignon - Italy - $17.99
2006 In Situ Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon - Chile - $20.99
2007 Broadside Cabernet Sauvignon - Paso Robles, Calif. -$19.99
2006 Pargua I Cabernet Sauvignon Blend - Chile - $41.99
2006 Big Pape Efeste Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon - Columbia Valley, Wash. - $49.99
2007 Educated Guess Cabernet Sauvignon Blend - Napa Valley, Calif. - $25.99

I can personally vouch for the In Situ and Educated Guess as being big Cabs for small bucks. Pay just $5 to sample them (and any of the others), then buy a few bottles next door at Vinea with a 25% discount when you show your tasting ticket.

Later that evening, F. Scott's Restaurant and Jazz Bar and The Wine Shoppe at Green Hills invite you to join them for an intimate evening of "Wine Tasting with the Winemakers."

Featured wines will be Domaine Servin Chablis and Domaine Parent Pommard. Francois Servin is the sixth generation of his family to work on his same estate. So what I'm saying is: Dude probably knows what he's talking about. Go soak up some knowledge and enjoy some excellent French wines. If you stay to have dinner afterwards, you'll receive 10% off your bill in the dining room. Reservations are preferred. (5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, $10 per person. Call 269-5861 to reserve your spot.)

If planning for the upcoming Thanksgorging holiday is starting to stress you out, join Chef Sean Norton at Watermark for a Thanksgiving Wine and Food Tasting on Wednesday, Nov. 11, starting at 6pm. They'll be serving wine and hors d'oeuvres for the upcoming holiday and featuring easy dishes to wow your family and friends. They promise "Holiday cooking made easy!" so that's reason enough to check it out. The cost is $25 per person. Call to reserve your spot (615 254-2000).

Finally, if your price threshold for a wine tasting is well...free, you're still in luck this weekend. Boonedocks Distribution, in partnership with Brinkmann's Wines and Spirits is offering a free wine tasting at Sips N Strokes in Cool Springs 3-6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7. They'll be featuring all California Cabernet Sauvignons, including two that got 90-94 points from Wine Enthusiast magazine. So if you're a lower-case wine enthusiast yourself, head on down to 103 International Drive, Suite 114 off Carothers Parkway.

Cheers!
