Because Radius10 Wasn't Immortal

Hipster places come and go, and good ones can last a long time. But nothing lasts forever.

Except Sperry's.

With locations in Cool Springs and the original flagship in Belle Meade, Sperry's has been the place where the elite go to meet and greet and eat since Nixon was still in office. With it's dark, clubby atmosphere and tables nestled close against each other, it's an excellent place to see scions of the business community dining at a romantic table between their ex-wife and their next wife.

Beyond the intriguing people-watching, Sperry's has introduced a couple of dining deals that will make it worth your while to check it out, especially on Sunday and Monday nights. Through at least the end of the summer, all bottles of wine will be half price. Their wine list is expansive, but not ridiculously expensive or overwhelming. At 50% off, there are some real bargains to be found and a 2008 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence ensures that there shouldn't be many clunkers among both the New World and Old World selections.

Couple that with their 2-for-1 gift card deal and you can drink for about half of retail price. They only offer the 50 percent off special for one day at a time a few times per year at each location, but a little bird told me that July 13 in Belle Meade and July 14 in Cool Springs will be the dates to circle on your calendar. A $140 2004 Silver Oak Alexander Cabernet at half off paid for with a 2-for-1 gift card sounds like a Sunday plan I can get behind.

If you still need a philanthropic reason to get thee to a Sperry's, then maybe their $49.95 Prime Rib Dinner for 2 will motivate you. On Sunday and Monday nights you can trade a small green portrait of Ulysses S. Grant for two 12 oz. prime ribs, salad bar, bread, choice of two side items to share and either chocolate molten cake or creamy cheese cake for dessert. You can also substitute fish for the prime rib if your gristle count is bordering on the unhealthy range. Best of all, a portion of your bill will be donated to support two successful wine-based charities in the region: l' Eté du Vin at the Belle Meade location and A Vintage Affair in Cool Springs.

Great deals, red meat, old school atmosphere and a reason to feel good about yourself. What more do you need? Get on down and leave your nose prints on the salad bar sneezeguard next to someone who probably owns the mortgage on your house.
