What Are You Eating This Week? Restaurant Week Commences

Tonight marks the start of Nashville Originals' Restaurant Week, during which many of the city's finest non-chain eating establishments will be offering prix-fixe dinner specials for a mere $20.08. We've had several requests to open a post where people can share their experiences throughout the week. So, folks—start spillin'. Where did you eat? What did you have? Did you get all 2,008 pennies worth?

I kicked off my restaurant week at the Yellow Porch. My dining companion had the paella which I sampled and it was excellent - spicy, rich, seafood cooked perfectly. I had the stuffed pork loin and it was tasty, although a bit dry and overcooked. The bread pudding I had for dessert sort of made up for it though, delicious. All in all it was a great way to check out a place I've been meaning to try at a great price and the service was superb. I'll definitely be back.
Also as we were leaving a truck backed over a fire hydrant in the parking lot, water was everywhere and the police, who were at a loss for how to get the truck off the hydrant, provided much entertainment.
Posted On: Tuesday, Sep. 16 2008 @ 10:04AMWell, I guess my plans to eat at Mario's are spoiled...
We did PM last night. The portion sizes were perfect for a prix fixe deal, since I normally (gasp) skip dessert.
The wonton soup was downright hearty. Totally unexpected for what I usually encounter as dishwater with a noodle in it in other restaurants. My crab fritters were ample if not exceptional.
The seafood medley with red curry broth had just enough variety of proteins with mussels, squid, shrimp and scallops. I didn't get to sample my girfriend's lemongrass and tofu/veggie dish, but only because she hoarded it.
She had been craving peach cobbler for awhile now, so the cobbler wontons with caramel sauce were mandatory. And tasty. I had the chocolate boxes with candied ginger and enjoyed them verily.
Thinking of Cabana's or Jackson's for tonight.
Posted On: Tuesday, Sep. 16 2008 @ 2:24PMWow, Ryan, you got dinner/theater for that low, low price -- now that's a bargain.
Cee, sounds like you did good. We like PM, generally speaking, except for the proliferation of $12 cocktails that are so not worth it.
I hope for dinner tonight that you're having vegetables, organically grown and sorted into boxes in my kitchen....
Posted On: Wednesday, Sep. 17 2008 @ 9:08AMCome on? No other reviews from restaurant week yet? Glad to hear that The Yellow Porch was good--we have a reservation there for Friday (to celebrate the wedding anniversary). Then on Saturday, I'm heading to The Acorn after an afternoon at Wine on the River. While making my reservation, the hostess informed me that they were "only seating downstairs" which is good since stairs will be daunting after 3 hours at Wine on the River.
I'd love some word on The Acorn's offering. Somebody? Anybody?
Posted On: Wednesday, Sep. 17 2008 @ 9:28PMThat's all we've got to say about Restaurant Week so far?! People!? I have a Friday night reservation at The Yellow Porch (for the wedding anniversary), so I'm glad to hear Ryan's report.
Then on Saturday, I'll be wrapping up an afternoon at Wine on the River with dinner at The Acorn. Anyone have any Restaurant Week experiences there yet?
Posted On: Wednesday, Sep. 17 2008 @ 9:33PMI haven't been able to sample the menus because I've been busy working.....but...the response has been great.
We won't have an estimation until next week about how many people have come out and enjoyed but in the first 3 days the number is at least in the several thousands.
Thanks to all the happy eaters out there. See you later.
(just a thought Jim) It is in the nature of blogs that as the post works its way down the crawl it is less likely that people will see it and respond. Is there a way where you want to get comment in a specific time frame to tag the blog for easy reference and access?
Posted On: Thursday, Sep. 18 2008 @ 9:13AMSorry for the double posting guys. I waited 5 minutes and the first one didn't show up, so I reposted. Someone have mercy and delete one of 'em for me. :)
Posted On: Thursday, Sep. 18 2008 @ 9:37AMNo problem, AHAB. Sorry about the sluggish delivery.
Posted On: Thursday, Sep. 18 2008 @ 9:47AMHit Yellow Porch (in my top 5 NashVegas favorites) with some friends who had never been...it was fabulous as it always is! The service was slower than usual, but there were no empty tables the entire time we were there. Ryan I'm with you, the bread pudding was amazing! I had the pasta special w/salmon, their fish is always delicious.
I'm hoping to snag a late night reservation at Acorn Saturday night...we'll see if that happens!
Posted On: Friday, Sep. 19 2008 @ 5:26PMWhen Mrs. Pink and the Green Fairy went to Rumba last night, the Green Fairy's mom was talking about all the restaurants she'd been visiting throughout the week. The Acorn was at the top of her list--she said the menu descriptions didn't look that great, but the food itself was fabulous.
As for Rumba, Mrs. Pink said it was good. But she got an expensive margarita and had to send it back because they left out some of the ingredients. She said the salad with berries and blue cheese was fantastic, though.
Posted On: Friday, Sep. 19 2008 @ 9:33PMWe hit The Yellow Porch last night. I wasn't as blown away by the bread pudding as amybakes or Ryan. But it was a lovely evening overall. My fav being the pork loin and, as always, the awesome oil/vinegar/cheese concoction that comes with the bread. My husband had the paella and enjoyed every bite--agreed with Ryan on the perfection of the seafood. Check my blog if you're interested in the full rundown.
Posted On: Saturday, Sep. 20 2008 @ 9:34AMFantastic dinner at Ombi once again...he trout was with hash was light and perfect..great job everyone.
Posted On: Saturday, Sep. 20 2008 @ 10:16AMWe ended up at PM, and it was even better than we hoped. The wonton soup was the best ever, the coconut-crusted chicken was first-rate, and the chocolate boxes were tiny, dense little supernovas of flavor. Plus, it was a beautiful night with just a light drizzle on the patio, and we got to watch the convoy of wacky bicyclists.
Posted On: Sunday, Sep. 21 2008 @ 9:19AMThe Acorn blew me away last night! I'd never been, and, even through the haze of Wine on the River imbibing, I could recognize an excellent meal. Their salad came with a half of a deviled egg and chunk of crispy bacon that were quite delightful. Very salty bacon, a slightly sweet deviled egg. I had the trout with the butternut squash--much better than my pork at The Yellow Porch. And the gooey butter cake for dessert--so buttery. Ah, butter, my favorite food.
And I have to give props on the service. Everyone from reservations to reservation confirmation to our server (Candace) was lovely. Candace was especially lovely dealing with a couple of drunks from Wine on the River, attempting to hold it together in a refined establishment!
