Plumgood to the Rescue

I'm not saying that Plumgood Food actually engineered the gas shortage in Middle Tennessee any more than I'm saying these people did. But when the Fox fuel tanks were on E this weekend, the purple truck sure looked like a hero, pulling into our driveway with local and organic produce, fresh chicken, and Purity milk and ice cream.
Ever since the online grocer kicked its delivery fee this summer, I've been increasingly tempted to log on and order up. So far, the service has been consistently excellent. I placed an order at 9 p.m. on Friday night and had groceries by noon the next day. Produce—specifically corn, broccoli and green beans—has been better than anything I've hand-picked in the store, and the prices on many items are comparable to the supermarket.
Originally founded as an organic grocer, Plumgood has increasingly expanded its offerings to include thousands of mainstream products, from potato chips and ice cream to diapers and paper towels. If I could make one suggestion, I would ask them to start delivering Lazzaroli's Pasta. And of course, gas.
Any other requests for Plumgood?

Okay, well they have my fancy lettuce, but they don't have Provence Organic Grains bread. So, I'd add that. And I don't care for Azteca tortillas...I prefer Mission or another brand I can't think of right now. And they should carry just about everything from Weisenberger's Mill. And Newman's Own salsas. And Santitas chips.
But hey, they carry FarmSoy tofu, so that's good. But I wouldn't be able to stop going to the grocery. Even if they carried everything, I'm not sure I trust someone else to choose my produce. I'm very picky about my bananas. Though I love the thought of having groceries delivered. Because I'm going to the store about 2-3 times a week and hating it.

Picky produce pickers pick Plumgood produce!
We return more produce to vendors than any other store in the area because we know we are your eyes and hands. Give us try. We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. The only thing you have to lose is a trip to the store.

CEO, Plumgood Food
I was the same way at first, but after the broccoli, beans, corn, apples, avocados, bananas, zucchini and plums that I've received several times now, I give them power of attorney over my veggies.
Posted 09/22/2008 at 08:02:54 PMI'll consider it, particularly since it's the salad and bananas that usually have me going more than once a week. Though I do have to say that stocking more Provence breads and certainly Weisenberger's Mill (from Kentucky!) would be a really good thing. I don't necessarily have to have my Santitas delivered...

Posted 09/23/2008 at 08:16:45 AMWe carried Provence for a long time. One major problem: no shelf life, which created major supply chain and operational issues. We will be introducing par baked, artisan breads within the next few weeks which are outstanding. And you get to fill your house with the awesome smells of fresh baked bread at the same time.
Posted 09/23/2008 at 09:38:16 AMPlumgood has been a life-saver during particularly busy times in my life and I highly recommend them. Their service is good and the prices are reasonable. However, I will say that I've been disappointed by the produce I've purchased---it's often very green/unripe. Perhaps I just need to list my preference in the comments section? Anyway, I've also sent groceries to sick friends or those with a new baby---it's a great service.
Posted 09/23/2008 at 01:46:10 PMThat is a great idea—that hadn't even occurred to me.
