Tangredi’s Stepping into The Trace
M. Tangredi Restaurants Inc., the family-run company behind the two-year-old Tangredi’s Italian Kitchen on Elliston Place, is taking over the space left vacant when The Trace restaurant closed earlier this month. Chef-owner Michael Tangredi and family plan to reopen the trendy Hillsboro Village spot under the revised name Trace: Tuscan Bar & Grill. They are aiming for a June 1 debut.
The reincarnation of The Trace as an Italian eatery will make it a hat trick for M. Tangredi Restaurants, which is also in the process of launching Michael T’s: An American Grill in the former location of Country Life vegetarian restaurant on Division. The opening date for that project has been pushed back from March to May 1.

Hmmm...not too sure this is a good idea...
Posted 03/28/2008 at 10:12:12 AMNot a good idea if they're just taking over the space "as is". That place needs to be gutted down to the studs and reconfigured to better balance the restaurant and bar/drinking pieces.
Posted 03/28/2008 at 10:28:20 AMI think they should probably focus attention back to Tangredi's befor venturing out. We've been disappointed on all of our visits. We are desperate for low-key, moderate priced Italian. What they offer just isn't very good. Ingredients seem sub-standard and the cooking uneven at best.
Posted 03/28/2008 at 11:22:36 AMI've always had good experiences at Tangredi's, esp. for the price.
Posted 03/28/2008 at 12:59:04 PMMaybe the offer was too good to pass up, but it does seem a tad—what's the Alan Greenspan phrase?—irrationally exuberant to extend yourself with a third restaurant when you've already pushed back opening the second.
Posted 03/28/2008 at 01:31:14 PMI would love to hear more opinions about Tangredi's. I personally have always been underwhelmed, but the place seems to have its fans. What should I order next time?
Posted 03/28/2008 at 01:58:09 PMwhy am i so very not excited?
Posted 03/29/2008 at 09:52:02 AMThis is a major bummer.....
Posted 03/29/2008 at 11:25:22 AMwow. pretty pathetic. you think they could at least change the name from the trace. tangredi's is mediocre at best, if it were not for the prime location, the new 'trace' would not bring in any where near the same amount of business.
Posted 03/30/2008 at 12:29:38 AMCan we PLEASE get the guy with the mustard facial off the Bites banner?
Posted 04/01/2008 at 04:01:35 PMor at the very least, ask him to shave his neck!
Posted 04/02/2008 at 09:51:07 AMI think he's HOT -- stubbly neck and all!
Posted 04/02/2008 at 01:47:11 PMObviously, Mr. Tangredi has not yet dealt with Mr. Rayburn over parking. This has been the "pleasure" of every restaurant owner in that spot, and it will only be uglier when the new building is being erected in the only parking lot for the area.
Posted 04/04/2008 at 11:40:21 AMThe Tangredi's website says Trace: Tuscan B&G will be opening today (April 22nd) at 4pm. Does anyone else have and more info on this? Will this be a soft opening, menu testing, etc? I may stop by on the way home to check it out.
