Mediterranean Musical Chairs
Serial restaurateur Yanni Panagiotakis, a familiar name in Nashville's Mediterranean-themed restaurants, is at it again. This time, he has taken over the restaurant formerly known as La Luna, and re-dubbed the place Yanni's Mediterranean Grill. The tiny Berry Hill establishment, which has dabbled in Turkish, Greek and Italian cuisines under various management teams, now returns the focus to a menu of Greek favorites. Yanni's has outdoor seating and serves beer and wine.
Located at 600 West Iris Dr., 463-3707, Yanni's Mediterranean Grill is open 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

That gives you Yanni's, Athens on Franklin Road, and Istanbul Cafe on Nolensville all within a three-mile stretch.
Posted 01/21/2008 at 11:01:18 AMIt's all Greek to me.
Posted 01/21/2008 at 11:10:25 AMman...i miss la luna. that place was really great.
Posted 01/22/2008 at 08:35:53 AMMy girlfriend and I had one of our top three worst meals in Nashville at La Luna.
Posted 01/22/2008 at 02:16:04 PMTell us more. Spill the fava beans.
Posted 01/22/2008 at 04:11:33 PMThe original La Luna or the La Luna Greek/Italian/Philly Cheesesteak Cafe? I loved the original La Luna.
The slow service was mitigated by the perfect tahini-chickpea-oil consistency hummus, the Roasted Veggie plate, the dim lighting, and the BYOB policy.
Posted 01/22/2008 at 05:25:53 PMThe originak La Luna, owned by the Turkish family--the mom was the original chef at Anatolia---was wonderful. It's follow-up was gruesome. I went in one afternoon as the change on ownership was taking place and the new co-owner could not tell me the last name of his partner. He had to call him on the phone to ask. I was astounded it lasted as long as it did.
Posted 01/22/2008 at 08:09:42 PMMy boyfriend and I probably went to the original La Luna once a week for the relatively short time it was open. It was such a relaxing place to wind down after a long work week - good food and a bottle of wine.
Yet as nice and talented as the owners were, it always felt like they were beyond frazzled whenever more than five customers were in the restaurant. So I was not surprised to learn that they sold it. I think we were in there literally two days before it changed hands, but they didn't give us any advance warning :(
Posted 01/22/2008 at 08:47:59 PMThey didn't give anyone advance notice, maybe they were embarrassed. I found out from the server a couple days after. They were such nice people, but I think there were some internal family problems.
Posted 01/23/2008 at 11:53:57 AMYanni's is my favorite place in Nashville to get outstanding Greek home-cooking. His mousakka and pastitsio are out of this world. It's ALL great, including the atmosphere.
Posted 02/03/2008 at 09:52:06 PManyone else try yanni's?
Posted 02/04/2008 at 08:50:19 AMI tried to post this before, so forgive me if it posts twice. Yanni's food is so good that I work there now. I stumbled across it because the place across the street was closed. My picky self had never had Greek food so I was hesitant, but luckily I didn't just get chicken fingers because the Pork Souvlaki was amazing.
I went a few times more and then asked if he was hiring, because the servers didn't seem too appropriate and I just wanted to help and be part of something that was going to be great. So far it is great, so you should come give us a chance (and me some tips), I guarantee you will enjoy the experience.
Forgive me for the half-advertisement.
