Go Wild!

Wild Wasabi! Japanese restaurant in Cummins Station opened Dec. 1 in the former location of Omikoshi (also the former location of Goten 2). Kisung Kim owns the new restaurant, which serves sushi and other Japanese fare from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to midnight Friday; and noon to midnight Saturday. If you get there before we do, please report back on Bites.

I tried it a week or two ago for their $10 lunch buffet, which includes a selection of hot entrees (noodles, fried rice, a chicken dish, maybe a beef), a few apps (spring rolls and soup), and a selection of sushi (nothing special, mostly minor variations on the California roll, salmon, and spicy tuna).

I haven't tried the regular menu, and I suppose the buffet isn't bad if quantity matters more than quality, but I'd rather spend my $10 on four or five really good pieces of sushi than twenty mediocre ones.

Replacing a failed Japanese restaurant with another Japanese restaurant = fail.

I tried this for the first time yesterday (on Carrington and Jack's recommendation), and if I worked in Cummins Station I'd be eating there every day. I liked it a whole lot more than Ru-San (which isn't saying much, but still). It looked and tasted more like home cooking than generic steam-table Asian chow, and it wasn't deluged with salt. Plus the owner/cook, sweet Mrs. Kim, kept bringing me little dishes of pickled bok choi and other goodies to try, while explaining the nutritional benefits of miso soup (for breakfast? thanks but no thanks). Best of all: no blaring techno music.

Best sushi in Nashville...we love the owners, they always treat us like family and have opened our eyes to a few tasty Korean treats we would have never otherwise tried. Try the half and half dressing on your salad...half house, half ginger. De-lish! The fireball rolls are excellent if you like spicy food. I order the snowcrab roll and add avocado...always just like I used to get in Nola! We go there on a weekly basis!

I work in Cummins Station and love to run downstairs to eat the lunch buffet at Wild Wasabi. It's a perfect lunch spot.

Nice amount of choices for $10, and its all you can eat. Owners are always nice and friendly.
